ABOUT ENTERTAINING LONDON

ENTERTAINING LONDON was founded in 1997 by Amelia Young. It soon became apparent that there was a high demand for just such a leisure lifestyle club in London for busy people from all over the world, one that was genuinely fun and relaxed, with a large calendar of events covering the entire leisure industry. Over the past ten years, Entertaining London has successfully developed and maintained it’s unique niche as the Capital's leading arts, nightlife, theatre, restaurant, sports and leisure club for the 20s/30s (up to early 40s) age range. EL focusses on creating a community for its members, with almost daily free and spontaneous "Just Turn Up" (J.T.U.) social events as well as great benefits such as 50% - 85% off theatre/concert tickets, discounted and/or at cost weekends away, skiing holidays etc. Just as importantly, in this age of busy social networking, the club still retains its original friendly, informal atmosphere with the emphasis first and foremost on hundreds of great people having fun, enjoying themselves and relaxing with like-minded people in London. Entertaining London membership is much appreciated and needed in today's stressful lifestyle as a great way to actually get out and about and meet some fantastic new groups of friends!

MEET THE EL TEAM

Amelia Young, ENTERTAINING LONDON Director

Amelia, 37, has enjoyed a successful career as a solo cellist and piano teacher since her first cello performance at the age of five. Amelia began playing the cello at age four and had a colourful childhood as a musical prodigy, making her television debut at ten years old.

At 12, Amelia became the youngest student of the late Jacqueline du Pré, and at 16 won a national competition to become the first non-Royal person to be lent Prince Charles' cello, which was made in 1804 for the Prince Regent.

In 1987 Amelia won a music scholarship to Oxford University and gained her MA Music Degree.

Amelia devised, wrote, presented and performed her own "Cello and Chat Show", originally as an ITV series and subsequently as a live show, which she toured with all over the UK, Europe and America.

Amelia is currently taking a sabbatical from cello performance to devote her time to running ENTERTAINING LONDON. However, she has found that the professions of classical musician and activities club director are not widely dissimilar! Both are media professions and require a great deal of creative energy.

Amelia, and ENTERTAINING LONDON members appear regularly on TV and radio programmes as diverse as Channel 4's Cutting Edge, The Big Breakfast, Kilroy, The People vs. Jerry Sadowitz, Jerry Springer (!), a documentary for BBC Screen Grabs, LBC and London Talkback Radio.

Denis , ENTERTAINING LONDON Accounts Manager.

Denis was a sound engineer and photographer (this picture of Bianca and Tiffany is part of a full-page spread which Denis photographed). Denis ran his own recording studio for many years, recording such illustrious artists such as Yehudi Menuhin and Mick Hucknall as well as working as a Producer/Operator at the London Palladium. Denis' hobbies and interests include sailing, climbing, skiing, playing the guitar and stand-up comedy.

SOME OF THE EL EVENTS HOSTS

Keith Tang

Hi! I'm Keith Tang and I am one of the regular event hosts. I am 23, from Singapore and I'm a structural engineer. After hours I do magic, working regularly at public shows at the Magic Circle. With EL, I normally host a monthly Sunday lunch down the pub as I love lots of pub food! I enjoy keeping fit, doing magic and salsa dancing. But most of all I like socialising and helping the club get along so next time you see me, come and say hello!

Michael 39, New Business Executive

I started hosting EL events to bring people together at some of the best winebars and restaurants in the West End. There have been many great nights since 1999 when I joined. We have had a Greek Night, and also restaurants with live music, decadence and style that provide excellent cuisine at a great price.

Tuesday is well established as a New Members' Buddy Night, and myself and Adrian Brown alternate hosting on Tuesdays. We have combined modern, trendy favourites with traditional winebars and found a formula that works. The attendance is excellent and everyone has a great time. Around 80 - 100 members join us every week. Do come along as well!

Suzanne Ronayne, EL Website Designer

My name is Suzanne Ronayne and this was the best picture I could find of me - honest! I'm the official EL Website Designer. I have been working with Amelia to create this site. As I am currently engaged in making a quantum career leap from part-time secretary to (you guessed it) full-time web designer, I'm not familiar with the concept of spare time. But if I had some, I'm sure I would be spending it at good restaurants, parties and dancing, or doing cultural things, especially anything to do with art and photography. I shall be attending some more EL events soon, so do look out for me. I'll be the "square-eyed" one in the corner . . . do say hello!
